Finding Jesus
Finding Jesus consists of small wooden boxes, each housing a servo motor that animates a crucifix. The crosses rotate erratically — jerking, pausing, reversing direction — their movements resisting recognizable logic or stable orientation.
Traditionally functioning as a fixed axis of belief, the crucifix is here transformed into a restless navigational device. The mechanical hum of the servos introduces an uncanny acoustic presence, oscillating between devotional murmur, system error, and anxious repetition. At times inverted, at times suspended mid-motion, the crosses hover between guidance and disturbance.
Simultaneously functioning as religious icons and directional pointers, the crucifixes promise orientation while continuously withdrawing it. Eight rotating signals gesture everywhere at once, collapsing direction into permanent search.
